Credit Union Supports United Way in a Big Way

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. United Federal Credit Union (UFCU) was given a Bonfire Campie award in recognition of its continued support of United Way of Southwest Michigan (UWSM). The Campie Awards recognize successful employee campaigns that benefit UWSMs annual fundraising campaign. Of the 225 organizations who gave to United Way of Southwest Michigan in 2013, UFCU is among the Top 10 contributing companies and has a per capita employee giving rate of over $100.
"I am proud of the way our employees have stepped up their charitable efforts by contributing to such worthwhile organization," said Gary Easterling, United Federal Credit Union President/CEO and Board Chairman of United Way of Southwest Michigan. "At United Federal Credit Union, we encourage everyone within our company to find ways to give back to the communities we serve. As evident by this award, our team is dedicated to helping improve the lives of their friends and neighbors."
United Way of Southwest Michigan raised a campaign total of $3,466,528 in 2013setting a record for the second straight year.

"For an employee campaign to be successful, it needs support from leadership that is committed to United Way. Gary Easterling is an exemplary model of this kind of CEO. Not only does he walk the walk with his team at UFCU, but he is also engaged on many levels with United Way and a champion for the work we do."
In addition to financial contributions, every United Federal Credit Union employee is given eight hours of paid time off to use toward volunteering with organizations like United Way of Southwest Michigan, or the organization of their choice. UFCU employees have donated their time to volunteer at UWSM events such as Girls on the Run, Reading Day of Action, and Day of Action for Seniors.
