JACKSON, Mich. American 1 Credit Union held their annual Womens Expo in Jackson, MI on Saturday, March 8. The financial institution coordinates this event each year as a way to support business in and around the areas they serve and to help educate those in the community about different services and products they may not even know are available.
The event is free for guests to attend so no income is generated from the event as profit for the credit union. Expenses that are not covered by vendor fees are absorbed by American 1 and are an expected expense they budget for each year. "This is part of our marketing plan and one of the ways we give back to the community," said Liz Niles, community relations manager and coordinator of the expo.
They not only give back to the community at large, opportunities are offered to local non-profits to schedule workers to help at the event and they are given a donation determined by the number of workers they provide and hours they work. Over $1,500 was donated to charity from the Womens Expo this year.
"Our little expo of just 60 vendors and 90 attendees in 2004 has grown to over 195 booths and over 2,200 guests in 2014," added Niles. "The increase in space when we moved the event to a larger facility really opened the door for us to dream big and its been fun figuring it all out along the way."
Shuttle buses are hired to provide easy access for guests to attend since the facility doesnt have enough parking for all the guests who attend. This service is also free to those who take it and its highly encouraged through promotion. A special drawing to win a $200 gas card is offered to anyone who takes the shuttle.
