Credit Union Raises $30,000 for Local Charities
March 6, 2014
MIRAMAR, FL Tropical Financial Credit Union, one of South Floridas largest not-for-profit credit unions, is proud to announce it raised nearly $30,000 for local charities in 2013 and is looking forward to topping that number this year.Employees collected just under $19,000 and the credit union itself matched with a $10, 356 contribution. The total amount raised also includes donations from credit union members who are invited to participate in employee campaigns. Altogether, Tropical Financial supported 21 different causes throughout the tri-county area.
"Our mission as a credit union is not just to look out for our members financial well-being, but also the well-being of the people in communities we serve," said Amy McGraw, vice president of marketing. "Im proud to say our employees and members rose to the occasion to support some very worthwhile causes. They not only gave from their pocketbooks, but gave their time too."
The credit union has a volunteer committee called Tropical Community Action Team (TCAT) that decides which nonprofits and charitable events employees will get behind during the year. The committee only chooses projects that employees can both raise money and have an opportunity to volunteer their time.Last year, 83 employees dedicated themselves to at least one charitable cause.
Some of the organizations supported last year were Relay For Life, Prestige Clubs Bowl Fest, American Red Cross, Forgotten Soldier, Harvest Back to School Fair, Coral Springs Fire Department, Susan G. Komenand the Veterans and Community Resource Center.
For the month of January and February of this year, employees are raising money for Relay for Life in Pembroke Pines and will field a team for the fundraising event.
If anyone in the community knows of a worthy charity that needs assistance, please contact Amy McGraw at 954-517-7631 with suggestions.
