Credit Union Shows Commitment to Community

WORCESTER — The end of the year is traditionally considered the season of giving; however, Worcester Credit Union's commitment to giving back was demonstrated throughout 2013. Recently, the credit union released its list of 2013 charitable donations, highlighting a range of nonprofits and scholarships, totaling close to $5,000 in annual giving. "We feel charitable donations that support our community are an important part of who we are as an organization," said WCU President and CEO Karen E. Duffy. "Each and every donation we make reflects our commitment to this community." Organizations receiving donations in 2013 include: •The Bridge of Central Massachsuetts •Massachusetts Credit Union League Community Hope Initiative •Thomas S. Green Award recipients •WTHS Senior Scholarship Award •Sons of Italy Golf Tournament Sponsor •Worcester Regional Research Bureau •WCU/John F. Simoncini Scholarships •Worcester Public Schools Attendance Initiative •Worcester Educational Development Foundation Coats for Kids WCU employees also played a significant role in the credit union's charitable donations in 2013 by directly contributing through payroll deductions a total of $1,049 to the Worcester County Food Bank, American Diabetes Association, One Fund Boston, Friendly House of Worcester and WEDF Coats for Kids. "We're very proud of our employees, they reflect the philosophy of WCU," Ms. Duffy said. "WCU will continue to support initiatives and organizations that strive to improve the lives of our members and neighbors in greater Worcester. We look forward to continuing these efforts in 2014."
