Taravella Students Perform a Tribute to Etta JamesMore than 700 students attended Taravella High Schools Black History Month Celebration on Wednesday, February 12 at 9:30am in Coral Springs sponsored by BrightStar Credit Union, one of the largest credit unions in south Florida. The�event included tributes to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the late Nelson Mandela and Etta James, entertainment by students and a live performance from Taravella High graduate Shane Garcia, age 20, who overcame his stutter to wave dance on televisions So You Think You Can Dance.� Photo left shows Taravella students performing a tribute to Etta James. The show opened with both the Negro and American National Anthems and featured high school students reading poetry, performing hip hop and ballet routines, comedy acts and songs. During the show, a video about racism was played followed by Shane Garcia's video and his live performance. A total of 35 students performed and worked as stage crew. The celebration closed with a performance by a live student band.
