first westSurrey, B.C.Looking for a way to beat the winter blues? The 32nd annual Envision Financial Jazz Festivalone of Canada's largest youth music festivalsis taking place on February 21-22 at Sullivan Heights Secondary and the Bell Performing Arts Centre. The Envision Financial Jazz Festival combines daytime performances by 2,000 secondary school students with two evenings of superb jazz performances over the course of the two day festival. Students are provided with outstanding learning opportunities as they perform for adjudicators in six jazz categories. Twenty eight of the top high school jazz bands from the Pacific Northwest are in Surrey for the festival. "Were very proud to stage this showpiece jazz festival which has earned a reputation in Canada and into the U.S. as a quality music education and entertainment event," says Surrey Board of Education chairperson Shawn Wilson. "Our board is grateful for Envision Financials support, as it is key to the festivals success and more importantly, key to ensuring students have a high-profile, professional quality venue in which to develop, perform publicly and have a lot of fun." Envision Financial has stepped up once again as title sponsor of the jazz festival with a $25,000 contribution. Since the partnership began in 2003, the local financial institution has contributed more than $280,000 to the local jazz festival. As part of Envision Financials The Full Cupboard, the festival will again be addressing the issue of hunger in local schools by supporting the Surrey School Districts meal programs. Attendees are invited to make a cash donation at any evening performance. Over $3000 was raised for the Surrey School Districts meal programs at last years festival. The programs feed 3,450 students at 44 schools each day. "Were proud to support the Envision Financial Jazz Festival and to help the Surrey School District in raising awareness about the issue of hunger in our schools," says Shelley Besse, president at Envision Financial. "Studies show that students who have a healthy breakfast and lunch are more likely to do well in school. By supporting the districts school meal programs, were providing students with the opportunity to excel in their studies." Tickets are not required for the noon hour concerts or the evening performance and awards presentations on February 22.
