Norstar Federal Credit Union in Britton, SD participated in a dual effort to support local businesses and the Marshall County Area Food Pantry during the holidays this year.
The month of December, 2013 was the kick-off of the "Lucky Snowflake" loan campaign at the credit union. Qualified members earned an interest rate as low as 2.75% during the campaign. Jane Duerre, CEO at Norstar FCU, said "All members seeking financing during the holidays were guaranteed to win at least $10.00 in Britton Bucks by choosing a snowflake from the credit unions Christmas tree."
Snowflakes were tagged with Britton Bucks money ranging from $10.00 to $100.00. During the campaign, Norstar FCU gave away $620.00 in Britton Bucks, which can only be spent in community businesses, and all Britton businesses participated by accepting Britton Bucks as cash.
The amount each member won was then matched by the credit union as a donation to the local food pantry. In the end, the members, the local businesses, and the food pantry were all winners and a grand total of over $750.00 was donated to the Marshall County Area Food Pantry!
