epresentatives from Scott Credit Union presented a check recently for $3,000 to Highland High School Athletic Director Steve Lanxon for sponsorship of the schools annual girls basketball tournament.This is the sixth year that Scott Credit Union has been the namesake sponsor of the tournament, which will be held Jan. 18-25 at the Highland High School Gym. This is the 28th�year for the tournament, which is one of the premier girls basketball tournaments in the region.
"Were very proud to be the primary sponsor of this tournament in its 28th�year," said Scott Credit Union Community Relations Representative Lauren Hoefert. "We are excited about supporting this event. We truly believe in supporting our schools and our communities and this is another great opportunity to do that."
The tournament will feature teams from Althoff, Belleville West, Breese Central, Carlyle, CHBC (Cowden-Herrick Beecher City), Highland, Hillsboro, Mater Dei, Nashville, Nokomis, Okawville, OFallon, Salem, Teutopolis, Wesclin and Vandalia.
Scott Credit Union has made giving back to its communities a major priority. The local credit union contributed about $325,000, and its employees volunteered over 2,400 hours to a variety of area civic efforts throughout the region in 2013.
"We realize that without our members and the communities in which we serve, we would not exist as a financial alternative," Hoefert noted. "Supporting our communities is very important to us."
The credit union has increased its community involvement in the past few years while also increasing its efforts to educate consumers of the value of doing their financial business with a not-for-profit credit union.
"We want people in the area to know more about the value of doing business with a credit union," she added. "That is why we have focused our time on educating area residents about Scott Credit Union. One of the big ways weve done that is through our community involvement."

Scott Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative that is member owned. The credit union recently gave about $1.3 million back to members through a bonus dividend and loan interest rebate.
