Sturgis, SD - Five charities received donations from Northern Hills Federal Credit Union (NHFCU) for their participation in NHFCUs Community Challenge. �Charities involved include Northern Hills Area CASA Program, Spearfish Community Pantry, Front Porch Coalition, Crisis Intervention Shelter Service, Inc., and Autism Society of the Black Hills.
NHFCUs Community Challenge is an annual campaign that strives to save the community money in loan interest, while benefiting local charities. This years campaign, which ran from April 24 to Dec. 13, saved members more than $1 million in loan interest. Charities received a total of $7,000 in donations from NHFCU.
"After last years incredible reception for our inaugural Community Challenge, we decided to double the savings goal to $1 million. We reached our savings goal and were able to donate to five worthy charities, which is what our credit union philosophy is truly about," Floyd Rummel, III, Executive Vice President of Northern Hills Federal Credit Union, said. "We helped 76 members save on their loan interest, which is incredible. There were 37 mortgages refinanced and 39 personal loans refinanced."
Community members voted for the charity to receive the largest donation. First place, Northern Hills Area CASA Program, received $3,000. Second place, Front Porch Coalition, received $2,000, and third place, Crisis Intervention Shelter Service, Inc., received $1,000. Fourth and fifth place, Autism Society of the Black Hills and Spearfish Community Pantry, each received $500.
"We are so honored to be able to help all of these charities. Any donation truly goes a long way, and we know our money is going to a great cause and helping a lot of people in need," Rummel added. "Theres no way we could have done this without the support of the community, and we are looking forward to continued success next year."
