CPCUSomerville, MA - CPCU Credit Union held their 5th Annual Harvest Food Drive during the month of November to benefit the Somerville Homeless Coalition (SHC). Bins were placed in the Cambridge and Somerville branches to collect non-perishable food items to stock the SHC food pantry. CPCU strategically scheduled the collection before Thanksgiving to ensure the food pantry was well stocked for the holiday season. Throughout the collection, employees and members donated a wide variety of food items.. CPCU also donated 20 grocery bags full of items, including high demand items such as peanut butter and tuna fish. In total, CPCU collected 25 bags and two large bins of food. These items were combined with other foods in the pantry to provide individuals with a wide variety of options for their Thanksgiving meals and afterwards. The collection will benefit approximately 25 individuals. "With the cut to SNAP benefits in November and decreased distributions from the Greater Boston Food Bank, we have become more dependent upon donations from individuals and local organizations, such as CPCU, in order to assist community members with their Thanksgiving meals and their meals every day," commented Kathryn Benjamin, Director of Development at SHC. "We are proud to partner with The Somerville Homeless Coalition to provide them with enough items to benefit so many families in need, especially during this time of year. We are always so grateful to see the overwhelming number of donations our members and employees make to community-driven initiatives," commented Rui F. Domingos, Chief Executive Officer at CPCU Credit Union.
