To celebrate Octobers International Credit Union Day theme: Credit Unions Unite for Good, Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union invited the public to nominate their favorite charity for a special donation. Over 280 unique online nominations were submitted, many with comments as to how their favorite charity impacts the community. Fifty-six different charities were nominated, and winners were chosen based on community impact and the number of nominations their particular 501(c)3 non-profit organization received.
Congratulations to the three winning charities: Canine Angels of North Myrtle Beach $1,000 First Place Award, Habitat for Humanity of Horry County $250 Second Place Award, and Mercy Care of Myrtle Beach $250 Third Place Award.
Some of the comments made regarding the winning charities included: "I nominate Rick with Canine Angels. He saves dogs from kill shelters and trains them for disabled veterans. His time and devotion [help] on two fronts." "Mercy Care is the non-profit hometown hospice. Mercy Care staff and volunteers provide hospice services, children services, grief support, veterans services, and community wellness programs." "Habitat for Humanity doesnt just provide housing for low income families it provides home ownership. It not only builds houses, but instills traits such as pride and self-confidence, and builds life skills such as hard work and determination in its clients."
"Not only was this a fun and rewarding contest," explained Amanda Nguyen, Carolina Trust marketing coordinator, "but it exemplifies the credit union philosophy of People Helping People and our commitment to give back to the communities we serve. We appreciate everyone who took the time to recognize charities that make a difference in peoples lives."
