Credit Union Donates $5000 to Local School

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAEDWARDSVILLE, IL Scott Credit Union has partnered with East Alton Wood River High School to make sure that the laptops that students will be using this school year are protected.
Scott Credit Union recently presented representatives from East Alton Wood River High School with a $5,000 check to help cover the cost of bags to protect students new Chromebooks throughout the school year as the students carry them to and from school.
East Alton Wood River High School started its one-to-one computer program this year to provide a Chromebook laptop to each student.
"This is a great way for Scott Credit Union to play a small role in helping the students protect the technology they are using as they carry the laptops to and from school," said SCU Community Relations Supervisor Ashleigh Deatherage. "It is exciting for us to be a part of this project, especially at a time when schools in the area need the help the most."
The school district currently has about 600 Chromebooks in use by students. The Chromebooks enhance the educational experience through the use of the technology.
"When the school district contacted us about sponsoring the bags, we were happy to help," Deatherage said. "We think of Scott Credit Union as an innovative organization and we are excited about playing a small role in helping students have access to more technology in their educational experience."
Scott Credit Union has made giving back to its communities a major priority. The local credit union contributed about $275,000, and its employees volunteered over 2,300 hours to a variety of area civic efforts throughout the region in 2012.
"Credit unions are really about helping people, and this is another way for us to take that even a step further," Deatherage noted. "It is an honor for us to help students in our local schools."
Scott Credit Union is open to anyone who lives or works in an 17 county area, including Madison, St. Clair, Monroe, Randolph, Perry, Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Clinton, Marion, Bond, Macoupin, Montgomery, Fayette, Effingham, Williamson, and Jackson counties. Anyone who lives or works in St. Louis County, Mo., also can open accounts with SCU. Additionally, any active or retired military also can have accounts with Scott Credit Union.
