Credit Union Raises $3,000 for Community Shelter
October 31, 2013
JACKSON, Mich. American 1 Credit Union is dedicated to the communities they serve and feel strongly about giving back. On Saturday, October 26from 11am to 3pm, 15 local restaurants competed in the first ever American 1 Soup Wars at the Jackson County Fairgrounds.
The event served as a fundraiser for the Jackson Interfaith Shelter (JIS). Funds were raised through booth fees, monetary voting, concession proceeds and entrance fees. JIS also accepted several items including minute rice, towels, linens, etc. from local patrons.
Guests were able to try a two ounce sample from each of the restaurants, giving them a generous portion of soup. Total scores were based on the scores of our three judges; Krissy Kerwin, Andy Provenzano, and Al Eichenberg, as well as a sliding scale for the amount of monetary donations they received. Night Lights took home the Soup Wars Champion title, with Beach Bar and One Five One following in second and third.
"For a first time event we felt it went great and we cant wait to see what we can do next year" said event & marketing specialist, Jessica Lutz.
Overall the event raised over $2900 for the Jackson Interfaith Shelter. American 1 Credit Union rounded that dollar amount up to an even $3,000. The credit union makes no proceeds on this event, and even covers the costs of all of the expenses beyond what they donate.
