2013 Food Bank donationATHENS, GA The Northeast Georgia Chapter of Credit Unions has donated $500 to both the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and Athens Regional Medical Centers (ARMC) Guest House. The funds are part of the proceeds raised from the Chapters 18th Annual Charity Golf Tournament. The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and ARMC Guest House are just two of the many organizations that are benefiting from the Chapters support in 2013. Each year, the Chapter designates charities in the local counties served by its 19 participating credit unions to receive funds from their annual golf tournament. The Chapters charitable contributions for this year total $15,000. "Credit unions joining together to give back to the community demonstrates the people helping people principal upon which we were founded," said Dina Thomas, Chapter President and CEO at First Reliance Federal Credit Union. "The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia as well as ARMC Guest House provide a great service to this community. We are proud to show our support to both of these organizations." Laura Ryll, Chapter Board Member and Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer at Peach State Federal Credit Union concurs: "Its great that Peach States participation in the chapter gives us so many opportunities to show our support for the communities we serve. The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and ARMC Guest House are both such worthy organizations, and do so much to help those in their time of need." As for the Food Bank and ARMC Guest House, they truly appreciate the continued support from the Chapter over the years. Its clear that the credit union philosophy of "people helping people" is making a difference.
"The generous support we receive from the Northeast Georgia Chapter of Credit Unions and many other donors is vital to the operation of the Food Bank," said Susan Dodson, Communications and Donor Relation Manager for the Food Bank. "Every dollar donated enables us to acquire and bring food to our warehouse, prepare it for distribution, and provide it to help feed the hungry in our communities. We are once again honored to be selected to receive these funds. This donation will help us distribute over 2,000 meals to people in need." According to Alice Woodard, ARMC Guest House Manager, "We are so appreciative of the donation made to The Guest House by the NE GA Chapter of Credit Unions. We will most likely use the funds to start the Family Friendly area behind The Guest House. We hope to add some outdoor furniture and picnic tables to benefit our guests and hospital employees, as well as the nearby community. Thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives and health of those we touch."
