Earthmover Credit Union (ECU) raised $1,197 for the Kendall County Animal Control & Adoption Center at their recent Shred Event. Held in collaboration with the Village of Montgomery, the event not only provided a safe and accessible way for ECU members and the community to securely destroy personal documents—it also provided an opportunity for ECU Business Developer Manager Heidi Baird to fundraise for an important cause.

“I know how much a few hours of work on a Saturday morning provides to non-profits,” Baird said. “In the end, it’s all about helping out organizations to make our community a better place to live and work.”

May’s drive-through Shred Event took place at the Montgomery Police Department. Baird went car to car as community members waited to approach, where their boxes of papers would be unloaded and destroyed. Over the rumble of the shred truck, Baird explained that the Kendall County Animal Control had set up a table nearby and had dogs on-site that were currently up for adoption. Donations were tucked away in her black fanny pack as she wove between cars. Monty, the Montgomery Police Department’s comfort dog, was present at the event.

“I’m motivated by my desire to raise as much as I can to help,” Baird said. “Every little bit helps. I’ve had people empty out the change in their wallet because they didn’t have any cash. It’s very rewarding to see the fundraising pay off when you tell the organization how much you’ve raised.”

The community raised $1,197 for the Kendall County Animal Control. A few days later, Baird proudly presented the organization with a check.

“Earthmover partners with the Village of Montgomery to offer a free service to the community and the community in turn donates to a local organization,” said Baird. “Everyone is giving something to help.”

Baird is challenging herself to raise even more money for a local non-profit at the next ECU and Village of Montgomery Shred Event, tentatively scheduled for Sept. 2023.
