(PEACHTREE CORNERS, Ga. — Apr. 27, 2023) – Associated Credit Union recognizes National Volunteer Month by celebrating with employees who have volunteeredin the community. Members, Employees, and Community are the three pillars of Associated Credit Union. Associated Credit Union is dedicated to making a positive impact.
Lin Hodges, Associated Credit Union President and CEO stated, “One of our social responsibilities is making a positive impact in the communities we serve. Our members and employees continue to touch us with their willingness to give.”
Through their volunteer work, Associated Credit Union employees embody the credit union philosophy, “people helping people.” From fundraising to contributing their talents, time, and resources; which benefit charitable organizations, their commitment to giving back makes a significant impact on the community. Last year, Associated Credit Union employees volunteered 366 hours.
During National Volunteer Week, Associated Credit Union recognized their 2022 Volunteer of the Year, Wongel Worabo, Consumer Loan Underwriter. From women’s empowerment to financial counseling, Worabo’s list of community advocacy is long and impressive. Worabo’s volunteer history includes work with the Associated Credit Union Foundation, Books for Africa, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, Courageous Women in Action, Junior Achievement, Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries, Samaritan’s Purse, the YWCA – and many more. Worabo was presented with a plaque and token of appreciation by the Associated Credit Union Executive Team.
“Some people wait until they retire to volunteer, but you can give back to the community anytime. Why not volunteer while you are still healthy and capable,” said the 2022 Volunteer of the Year, Wongel Worabo.
The Associated Credit Union Foundation was established in 2009 and has become an avenue through which both members and employees can be a part of something bigger than themselves. Associated Credit Union employees have volunteered with Associated Credit Union Foundation partners such as Junior Achievement, Wilderness Works, Quinn House, Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, supporting initiatives like Junior Achievement Biz Town and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night. As an employee benefit, Associated Credit Union gives employees two paid corporate service days, to encourage their commitment to service.
