RENO, Nev. United Federal Credit Union (UFCU) announces that Lynn Soncini, fourth grade teacher at Donner Elementary, Reno, Nev., is the September 2013 recipient of the Excellence in Education Award. Soncini was selected by UFCU, KRNV News 4, and the Reno Aces baseball team. Each month, the Excellence in Education Award recognizes one teacher from the Washoe County School District (WCSD) and his or her individual achievements. The teacher can be nominated by students or parents. Winners receive recognition in the classroom or a special assembly by news anchor, Shelby Sheehan, and four tickets to a Reno Aces baseball game. UFCU, a primary sponsor, helps to ensure each recipient gains deserved recognition in the Reno/Sparks community. Soncini was nominated for the award by the parent of one of her students, who explained, "Mrs. Soncini is my son Gabriel's fourth grade teacher. She is of invaluable worth. Her consistency, classroom structure, and years of teaching experience, along with community building techniques, have allowed my son to find success." Soncini was honored for her work and contributions at Donner Springs Elementary. Soncini remembers the feeling of lacking confidence as a child and why she focuses on it now. "I always said when I became a teacher I would make it different. I would help the children gain confidence." UFCU has assisted WCSD teachers and families since 1949. "Im thrilled to see Mrs. Soncini receive our Excellence in Education Award for September," added UFCU Business Development Manager Kellie George.
