Rapid City, S.D. – Black Hills Federal Credit Union (BHFCU) believes it is imperative to support the
passions of its staff. That’s why they promote the staff-led Community Action Team (CAT) program and
are proud to share that staff contributions raised $4,060 for organizations across the state in February.
Employees also spent time creating 1,100 valentines for veterans and the elderly.

Last month, the CAT program focused on supporting organizations important to staff within the elder
care and health and wellness fields. The effort raised money for three organizations, the Monument
Health Cancer Care Institute, the American Heart Association, and Meals on Wheels Western South
Dakota. Plus, BHFCU supplied 30 elderly care facilities and veteran organizations with staff-made
valentines.
“We were so proud of how staff showed up this month to support our causes,” said Becky Brown,
BHFCU Personal Financial Associate. “From getting crafty making valentines to throwing pies in the face
of our executive team, we found creative ways to give back to organizations doing essential work in our
communities.”

CAT co-chairs organized valentine-making stations at all BHFCU locations, a Tough Enough to Wear Pink
t-shirt day, a restaurant gift card giveaway, and an annual pie-in-the-face event that draws a lot of
attention from staff. All these efforts amounted to eight pies to the face of two executive leaders, 66
proudly worn t-shirts, 1,100 hand-crafted valentines, and $4,060 raised for the three supported
organizations.

BHFCU supports community needs through corporate contributions, employee fundraisers, and
donations from members and community supporters to the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization.
