RENO, Nev. Sybille Horcholle is the September 2013 winner of the Class Act Award. Horcholle was selected by United Federal Credit Union (UFCU), KRNV News 4 (Nev.), the Reno Aces baseball team, and Nevada State Treasurer, Kate Marshall. UFCU, a primary sponsor, ensures each recipient receives deserved recognition in his or her community.
Each month, the Class Act Award recognizes one student from the Washoe County School District (WCSD) and his or her individual achievements. The student is nominated by a WCSD teacher and members of the community. Winners receive a $529 check for the students college savings as part of the Nevada College 529 Plan, and four tickets to a Reno Aces baseball game.
Horcholle was nominated for the award by her sophomore Honors English teacher, Amy Newberry, at Robert McQueen High School, Reno, Nev. "Students had to volunteer 20 hours in some sort of community service," explained Newberry.� "What I love and admire about Sybille is she not only did the 20 hours joyfully, but spent her entire summer volunteering at Atria, a retirement home in the area." Horcholle worked at the home three to four times a week logging more than 50 volunteer hours, often assisting during social events.
UFCU Business Development Manager Kellie George reiterated Newberrys praise. "We admire Sybilles commitment to serving others and our community. Its what were all about at UFCU." Horcholle was presented with a check by Reno State Treasurer, Kate Marshall, at a recent assembly. "While her acts arent glamorous, what is outstanding is Sybille's commitment to service," explained Newberry. "In a world where most teens are consumed with their own personal lives, this particular teen has chosen to spend her time serving others. She is an exceptional young woman, and I am proud to know her."
George explained that Class Act is the perfect way for UFCU to honor local students. "The award also gives us the chance to pay it forward to the kids, families, and teachers we serve," said George. "Weve been in partnership with the district since 1949 when we began serving the educational community in Reno." Today, UFCU provides a full line of financial services to more than 7,000 families in the WCSD.
George, a long-time advocate for students, has assisted the Members of UFCU since 2004. "Im proud that we, as a credit union, can give these students the recognition they deserve." With 22 branches nationwide, UFCU serves communities, teachers, and students throughout the U.S.
