CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Dec. 16, 2022) — Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union (TVFCU) is pleased to announce that its 26th Annual Golf Classic raised over $60,000 to benefit education-focused nonprofits. From the funds, $40,000 will benefit Students Taking a Right Stand (STARS) — a nonprofit that addresses issues to support a healthy school climate to enhance academic success in Hamilton County Schools. The remaining proceeds will benefit Junior Achievement in the Dalton and Ocoee Regions. Junior Achievement works to prepare young people for success by providing lessons on financial literacy, work and career readiness and business ownership.

“I was part of TVFCU’s Marketing Team when we started the TVFCU Golf Classic in 1996,” said Tammy Zumbrun, TVFCU community outreach/marketing manager. “We started it with the mission of helping give back to STARS since they provide such vital character-building programs within Hamilton County Schools. I’m honored to see its impact in the community during the past 26 years.”

TVFCU hosted the 26th Annual TVFCU Golf Classic this fall at Black Creek Golf Course. The classic featured two flights — one in the morning and one after lunch — with around 150 players total.

“We had a wonderful time golfing for a good cause,” said Ryan Henn, AVP of business and commercial services at TVFCU. “The course, food, activities, weather –  it was all phenomenal. I look forward to this tournament every year.”

Through TVFCU’s golf classic, STARS continues to invest in Hamilton County Schools. STARS has noted tremendous success in improving the school culture by utilizing empathy-based student training. For instance, in their Move2Stand training, over 80% of students reported that they were better equipped to stop bullying in their schools.

“Student training is crucial to improving school climate, and the funding from TVFCU has been a tremendous support to this service,” said Karen Glenn, interim director for STARS. “We want to help the next generation get the best education possible and to be successful, and TVFCU plays a big role in helping us to achieve this goal.”

Those who wish to support STARS may send a tax-deductible donation to P.O. Box 2589, Chattanooga, TN  37409 or by contacting Karen Glenn at glenn_k@HCDE.ORG. Donations can also be made to Junior Achievement by visiting their websites, ocoeeregion.ja.org or georgia.ja.org.
