Credit Union Supports the Troops

FLINT, Mich. Flint-based Security Credit Union (SCU) has partnered with Operation Care� Package of Michigan to host its "Support Our Troops" collection drive for a second year, as the nonprofit prepares to send care packages to United States soldiers overseas. Donations are being accepted at SCUs 9 locations in mid-Michigan, now through Monday, Oct. 28.
Operation Care Package of Michigan aims to provide deployed military service men and women with the comforts of home by collecting, compiling and sending care packages overseas. Items collected during SCUs "Support Our Troops" drive will be packaged and shipped to the troops during the holiday season.
"Military men and women give up so much to keep us safe," said Christopher Estes, SCU president and CEO. "Its our honor to collect donations for Operation Care Package, and help provide the comforts of home to those on active duty."
Suggested items include:
- Personal toiletries (no travel size please): shampoo, bar soap, lip balm, dental floss, deodorant, baby wipes, lotion, eye drops and disposable razors.
- Non-perishable food items: beef jerky, chips, crackers, cookies, dry cereal, protein bars, energy drinks, instant oatmeal, microwave popcorn, pudding cups and hard candies.
- Clothing: underwear, socks (white), bandanas, slippers, sunglasses and shower shoes.
- Recreation materials: board games, batteries, puzzles, books, CDs and DVDs, video games, athletic equipment, sewing kits, stationery and prepaid phone cards.
