NCUA Grant will allow credit union to provide financial capability workshops.
University Federal Credit Union recently received a grant of $9,380 from NCUA as part of the 2013 Multi-Initiatives. With the funds from this grant, the credit union will be able to provide financial capability workshops to University of North Dakota (UND)students, faculty and staff.
Experienced financial counselors will use the NCUA Pocket Cents website as the framework for the presentations. The credit union has purchased 20 netbook computers for use during the workshops, allowing participants to work synchronously through the content and tools with the instructor.
University FCUs goal is to host 30 workshops with a limit of 20 participants per session. The University's Financial Wellness peer educatorswill host concurrent, age appropriate activities for children of workshop attendees, using both the Pocket Cents website as well as material from the Bank of North Dakota's College SAVE program.
The credit union is partnering with UND's Financial Wellness Services and U2 departmentsto providemarketing material and communication activities for the workshops.
"We are very happy to have received this grant and be given the opportunity to providethe type of knowledgethat can make a difference inthe decisions people make during themany stages of life" says Marney Kresel, CEO of University FCU.
