Credit Union Partners with Children of the Nations
September 16, 2013
Imagine serving in the outer reaches of Africa, in the sweltering heat, when you look up and see a vivid reminder of home, in the most unusual way&.
A little background. Following a Mobile Banking campaign in 2012, Kitsap Credit Union had a surplus of promotional t-shirts left over. Wanting them to be put to good use, they partnered with Children of the Nations, a local organization with outreach in several African countries. The shirts were handed out to village residents, most possessing little to nothing.
Fast forward to August 2013. Kitsap Credit Union was contacted by one of its members, Alicia Martin, who was in the north-western area of Sierra Leon with Children of the Nations. Ms. Martin was in charge of their communications, pictures and video stories, serving as a summer intern.
While snapping photos one day, she had an amazing encounter when she came across a man wearing a t-shirt from her every own Credit Union!
We might take an extra shirt or two for granted in the United States, however, in impoverished Africa, it can make all the difference! The Credit Union and its member hope this story inspires you to pass it on! How can you make a difference?
Kitsap Credit Union has a proud history of providing excellent member service to its member-owners. It has also been recognized as an organization with a strong social conscience doing good for the people who live and work in the communities it serves. The Credit Union implemented a formal Outreach Plan to share the Credit Union Philosophy of "People Helping People" through education and community participation which facilitates a positive change in the lives of the people it serves.
