Credit Union Donates $5,000 to School District Training Programs

RENO, Nev. United Federal Credit Union (UFCU) contributed $5,000 to the Washoe County School District (WCSD), Reno, Nev. for its 2013-14 training initiatives. Funds will be used to support the professional development for administrative staff and provide additional resources, such as educational items and access to workshop speakers.
"Guest speakers, books, business luncheons, and materials are all funded through this special account established by United Federal Credit Union," said WCSD Project Manager/Chief of Staff Vangie Russell. Annually, UFCU provides the financial support needed for its training efforts, designed to enhance the expertise of administrative staff in particular. Russell has been glad for the support shown by the business community and said its essential to these types of programs where money is tight. "Weve enjoyed a unique relationship with the credit union for many years, with unwavering support for staff and students alike," she added.UFCUs roots with WCSD date back to 1949, when the credit union began serving the educational community in Reno. Today, the tradition continues with UFCU offering a full line of financial services to a district-wide staff of more than 7,000. Many children of Members attend WCSD and benefit from the collaboration.
"Were delighted to take a strong role with our local schools and help further their training objectives," said UFCU Business Development Manager Kellie George. "It also gives us the opportunity to directly impact the families of the Members we serve." Additionally, UFCU provides funding for the Education Alliance and sponsors a student-run branch at Reed High School. More than 125 students have worked and trained in the branch, learning lifelong employment skills to take with them to their next job. Over time, some students have become employees of the credit union as they attended college locally while others became full-time employees pursuing careers with UFCU. UFCU presented a check for $5,000 to WCSD at its annual training event, held at Lawlor Events Center, University of Nevada, Reno. More than 450 attended the event, including board trustees, administrators, supervisors, and union representatives. George concluded, "At United Federal Credit Union, we want to be an advocate for the kids." This aligns with the UFCU service philosophy, where helping Members achieve life goals is a top priority.
