Black Hills Federal Credit Union (BHFCU) is proud to contribute to the Veterans Community Project (VCP) in Sioux Falls with a donation of $50,000. With this contribution, BHFCU sponsored the construction of a tiny home for veterans in need.
Several members of BHFCU’s leadership team were on-site for the project’s groundbreaking ceremony in late June. Located in northeast Sioux Falls, the VCP Village is a specialized community of 25 tiny homes with on-site services to help homeless Veterans return to an independent life. “At BHFCU, we feel it is profoundly important to support those who have served our country,” said Jerry Schmidt, president & CEO. “We hope this tiny home will have a lasting impact on the many veterans who will call it home in the years to come. It’s a small way we can repay them for their selfless service.”
As construction gets underway, BHFCU staff will assist with building the sponsored tiny home. This provides an exciting opportunity for BHFCU to not only be both a financial and physical part of giving back and helping improve the lives of area veterans.
As a part of the program, Veterans work to achieve health and wellness, income stability, education and training, and fiscal understanding goals, with the ultimate objective of living independently.
BHFCU supports community needs through corporate contributions, employee fundraisers and Jeans Day donations, and contributions from members, staff, and community supporters to the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
