Rapid City, SD - Black Hills Federal Credit Union (BHFCU) recently donated $1,820 plus a pickup truck bed worth of supplies to nine animal rescues across South Dakota.

Three rescue-animal owners and lovers on our staff led the charge to gather pet supplies at all our BHFCU locations. New this year, the group enlisted All Creatures Veterinary Hospital, All Pro Pet Spa, and Black Hills Bark Avenue as additional drop-off points in Rapid City.

The fundraising effort was multi-faceted, with several treat bowl prizes and gift cards on the line. The team asked BHFCU staff to share their rescue stories and held donation-backed voting for the best story. Plus, all monetary and supply donations were tracked for entry to win a prize.

“As an owner of multiple rescue animals, some with disabilities, I was overwhelmed by the support from our coworkers and community,” said Tammy Brabazon, personal financial officer. “South Dakota has many animal rescues doing the hard work, day in and day out, to save as many animals as possible. We are thrilled to support them.”

Donations were made to the Humane Society of the Black Hills, Paws Animal Rescue, Western Hills Humane Society, Sturgis Animal Shelter, Battle Mountain Humane Society, Wakpa Waste Animal Shelter, Sioux Falls Area Humane Society, STARS Rescue, and the Oglala Pet Project.

BHFCU’s mission of improving lives is achieved by living out this principle and offering ways for employees to support their community. Run internally by staff members; the Community Action Team (CAT) program was developed in 1996 to provide staff the opportunity to fundraise for and provide resources to causes near to their hearts.

BHFCU supports community needs through corporate contributions, employee fundraisers and Jeans Day donations, and contributions from members, staff, and community supporters to the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Established in Rapid City in 1941, Black Hills Federal Credit Union is a member-owned, not-forprofit financial cooperative serving more than 90,000 members. The community-chartered credit union has locations in Rapid City, Custer, Eagle Butte, Hot Springs, Pierre, Sioux Falls, Spearfish, Sturgis, and Wall, South Dakota.
