SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The first-ever Children’s Day at the Potawatomi Zoo sponsored by United Federal Credit Union (United) was a huge success. Held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, more than 2,400 children were able to visit the zoo thanks to United’s sponsorship.

“It’s one of the goals of the Potawatomi Zoo to be a zoo for the community, a place where everyone feels welcome,” said Josh Sisk, Executive Director of the Potawatomi Zoo. “Children’s Day helps us make the Zoo even more accessible to our community. We are thrilled our partnership with United gives us the opportunity to share the Zoo with a new audience of children, who we believe are the future of conservatorship.”

In addition to paying for all children under the age of 14 to attend Children’s Day, United also held a youth savings account sweepstakes. The randomly selected winner, Gabriella Gillion, received a $500 deposit into a youth savings account for her son, Kion.

“We love having the Potawatomi Zoo right here in South Bend, and when we had the opportunity to support the zoo with its first-ever Children’s Day we knew we wanted to help,” said Carla Fazio-King, United’s District Manager. “The zoo has played such an important part in South Bend’s history for more than a century. United is proud to have the chance to work side by side with the zoo to help families in Michiana make great memories.”

United plans to host Children’s Day at the Potawatomi Zoo again in 2023.
