Service Credit Union Impact Foundation Raises Over $100K for Housing Programs
June 3, 2022
PORTSMOUTH, NH (June 2nd, 2022) – The Service CU Impact Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit charity arm of Service Credit Union, is excited to announce that through its Inaugural Spring Gala, it has raised nearly $105,000 to benefit Community Action Partnership agencies across the state of New Hampshire. These funds will help make an impact on the state’s housing crisis.
The gala, themed “Bringing Magic to NH,” featured comedian and magician Mark Robinson plus Dover, NH based band, the Soggy Po’ Boys. The inaugural event took place on May 20, 2022 at Service Credit Union’s corporate headquarters in Portsmouth, NH.
The NH Community Action Partnership [NHCAP] consists of five agencies across the state that support housing and homelessness programs and services, with the goal of giving people the appropriate resources and opportunities to bring them out of poverty and help them change their lives. As a result of the gala, each CAP agency will receive a donation of $20,000.
The issue of affordable housing is a major one currently facing the entire country, says Lauren Phillips, Housing Navigator at the Community Action Partnership of Strafford County. “The National Low Income Housing Coalition found that in 2020, a renter working 40 hours a week making minimum wage could afford a 2 bedroom apartment in exactly 0 counties nationwide. A donation [to Community Action Partnership] would be life-changing for our clients … it would supply a family with everything they need to move into their own apartment.”
“We selected the NH Community Action Partnership as the funding recipient for our Inaugural Spring Gala because what they do goes beyond just finding homes for people. From supplying beds and linens to cleaning supplies and baby products, to helping families get a security deposit and pass background checks, this organization helps people who are starting from scratch get the jumpstart they need to get on their feet,” said Impact Foundation Vice President/Secretary Wendy Beswick.
The Service CU Impact Foundation would like to thank its event guests, sponsors and donors for their generosity, including Covius, Deluxe, St. Mary’s Bank, Easterseals NH, the Bedford Village Inn & Grand, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Chinburg Properties, CUNA Mutual Group, Sprague Operating Resources LLC, and The Boulos Company.
