ARLINGTON, Texas – May 25, 2022 – Mansfield school district graduates Makayla Blackwell and Rowanna Baker have each been awarded a $10,000 scholarship from the Texas Trust Gives Foundation.
Blackwell was awarded the Bill Hallmark Scholarship for Engineering. The first in her family to attend a four-year college, she will pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University. She was a Cum Laude honor graduate of Mansfield Legacy High School where she was active in the UT Austin Women in Engineering program, NASA’s Space Center University and robotics.
This year’s Rita Hamner Fine Arts Scholarship went to Baker of Mansfield High School. As a music major at Baylor University, Baker is excited about being able to continue to develop her musical abilities. Throughout high school, she was actively involved in choir and served as a choir officer for two years. She often sings the national anthem at community events in and around Mansfield.
The Bill Hallmark and Rita Hamner scholarships were established to honor these two individuals’ service as volunteer board members of Texas Trust Credit Union. The Texas Trust Gives Foundation, as the charitable arm of the credit union, oversees the annual scholarships.
“Makayla and Rowanna have a bright future ahead of them,” said Washima Huq, Executive Director of the Texas Trust Gives Foundation. “We hope their college experience will give them opportunities to further develop their knowledge and talent so that they can achieve their professional dreams.”
