LAFCU Raises $11,000 for Habitat for Humanity
May 16, 2022
Glendale, CA (May 16, 2022) – Los Angeles Federal Credit Union (LAFCU) raised $11,000 for the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity (HfH) https://sgvhabitat.org during April. The funds came from online contributions, in-person branch donations, and from a raffle of gift cards for LAFCU staff. For every dollar raised, LAFCU matched up to $5,000 for HfH through LAFCU’s 501(c)3 non-profit charity, the Los Angeles Charitable Association. All donations will go towards HfH’s vision of helping families build and improve places to call home. They believe that affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities.
LAFCU has partnered with HfH since 2007, including raising funds and volunteering in person at build sites. Although LAFCU hopes to return to building houses again in person soon, due to the ongoing pandemic, they focus mainly on online and in-person branch donations.
HfH is a global nonprofit housing organization founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. It works in local communities across all 50 states and in 70 countries and has helped 39 million people achieve strength, stability, and independence through safe, decent, and affordable shelter. Their vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Families in need apply for homeownership and are selected based on level of need, willingness to partner with Habitat, and their ability to repay a mortgage through an affordable payment plan. The homebuyer invests hundreds of hours of their own labor, called “sweat equity,” working alongside volunteers and other Habitat homeowners.
Anyone who lives in Southern California can join LAFCU and take advantage of its financial services. For details, visit www.LAFCU.org, call (877) MY LAFCU (695-2328), or stop by one of their branches.
