Arsenal Credit Union Awards $7,500 in Scholarships to Local Seniors

On Thursday, April 28, during its annual meeting, Arsenal Credit Union (St. Louis, Mo.) awarded five graduating high school seniors $1,500 scholarships each. This year, the credit union increased the number of students who won awards and upped the total prize money from $5,400 to $7,500.

Students were judged on criteria such as an essay, community involvement, extracurricular activities, GPA and honors/awards. New to the judging criteria this year was a Demonstrated Leadership category and changing the essay question to, “If you were given $1 million, what would you do with it and why?”

Each scholarship winner displayed unique and interesting experiences in their applications. The list of winners includes students from various areas in the credit union’s field of membership.

  • Charlie Dunajcik: Graduating from Lindbergh High School. Planning to study chemistry or pharmaceutical chemistry at University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy.

  • Dillyn Wood: Graduating from Windsor High School. Planning to study environmental engineering at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

  • Haylii Sondrol: Graduating from Mary Institute Country Day School. Planning to study chemical engineering and is undecided on what university she will attend.

  • Kate Yates: Graduating from Parkway West High School. Planning to study accounting at Truman State University.

  • Sophia Boglino: Graduating from Webster Groves High School. Planning to study business at University of Memphis.

Arsenal began offering scholarships in 1997 and has awarded a total of $101,650 in prize money to 102 students who’ve shown excellence in academics, a strong commitment to their communities and outstanding overall character.
