WASHINGTON, DC – On Thursday, April 14, DCUC hosted a luncheon for Hawaiian member credit unions. The luncheon brought together members from across the islands to discuss the unique aspects of serving the military community in Hawaii.

“Hawaii has always been proud of its cultural and ethnic diversity – we grew up understanding the values of being respectful and working together,” shared Ron Aoki, Schofield FCU President/CEO. “This meeting gave the Hawaii DCUC members that opportunity to put those values into action by coming together and aligning ourselves to ensure that we are supporting each other in serving our military and veteran communities.”

“Meeting with our members is a fundamental part of serving them. We always enjoy seeing our members at our conferences, and it is a great privilege to visit many of them where they work each day and see firsthand what they need to continue providing excellent service to their members,” said Anthony Hernandez, DCUC President/CEO. “We enjoyed hosting this luncheon where members could come together for a unified discussion on what they need from us as their trade association to succeed.”

Issues discussed included advocacy strategy, emerging concerns and issues, how to get the most value from DCUC, and laying the groundwork for DCUC’s third active sub-council. Much like its other sub-councils in the Mid-West and Overseas, this Sub-Council would address issues that are unique to serving the military and veteran community in this region.

The Defense Credit Union Council is the premier resource for credit unions on all military and veteran matters. By maintaining a close and constant liaison with the Pentagon, Capitol Hill, and NCUA, the Council champions the interests of credit unions serving our military and veteran communities by coordinating policy, procedures, and legislation impacting morale and welfare, financial readiness, and the delivery of quality financial products and services. Organized in 1963, the Council’s membership is comprised of 180 credit unions with over 30 million members.
