(SAN ANTONIO, TX – APRIL 12, 2022) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation (SSFCU) has donated $5,000 to the San Antonio chapter of the PTSD Foundation of America (PTSDUSA). The donation will be used to help provide support services such as housing, peer groups, counseling and mentoring for veterans and their families.
“The mission of PTSD Foundation of America is to bring hope and healing to veterans and their families suffering from the effects of combat-related post-traumatic stress,” said Ron Youngblut, director of operations for PTSDUSA. “Our vision is to help reduce the number of suicides among veterans.”
The Security Service Charitable Foundation donation will be used to maintain peer group support, pastoral counseling, and one-on-one mentoring programs. Over the course of the year, 30 to 40 unique individuals from the San Antonio area will take place in PTSDUSA’s Warrior Group and individual counseling sessions.
“We appreciate the sacrifices our veterans have made to protect our country and our freedom,” said Charles Goss, executive vice president and chief lending officer for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “We are honored to help support them with the services they need to overcome the hardships and obstacles they face every day.”
PTSDUSA was founded in 2005 as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization by a group of concerned volunteers. Today, the organization has ten chapters in eight states. In 2021, the organization established Camp Hope, the only long-term peer-to-peer residential facility in the U.S. designed for combat veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
