(EL PASO, TX – MARCH 24, 2022) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation (SSFCU) has donated $5,000 to the El Paso Children’s Hospital (EPCH) for the newly established Spina Bifida and Brachial Plexus Clinics. These clinics will help children in need receive care and rehabilitation without leaving the community.

“The El Paso Children’s Hospital strives to provide compassionately coordinated and family-centered care for children, with a dedication to excellent patient outcomes, inclusive leadership, and innovative pediatric research and education,” said Taylor Moreno, program director for EPCH. “Donations like this help us continue to provide the highest level of pediatric care in West Texas and Southern New Mexico.”

The charitable foundation’s donation will help to purchase rehabilitation equipment for EPCH’s Outpatient Clinic expansion. The clinic will be the only one of its kind in the region, and will address birth trauma as well as other traumas resulting in a stretch or tear in the brachial plexus area.

“The EPCH clinic expansion will provide much needed pediatric care and other medical services to the El Paso area,” said Marisela Rios, vice president of member service—Mountain Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “It is a pleasure to support the EPCH’s efforts to continue to offer local pediatric care for children and families in our community.”

Since its founding in 2012, EPCH has provided care to over 150,000 children within a 350-mile radius. Service areas include West Texas, Southern New Mexico and Northern Chihuahua. In 2020 the hospital saw an average daily census of 55 pediatric patients, 1,104 inpatient admissions, 2,205 outpatient cases, 19,211 emergency department cases and 3,309 surgical cases.
