(SAN ANTONIO, TX – MARCH 17, 2022) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation has donated $5,000 to THRU Project of San Antonio, TX. This donation will help provide ride-share services and life skill workshops to local youths transitioning out of foster care.

“Every time I hear what these young men and women have endured, the stories are just unbelievable, the many placements that they’ve had,” said Courtney Laverty, CEO of THRU Project. “Support from partners like the Security Service Charitable Foundation is a blessing to these youth because they need all the support they can get as they transition out of foster care.”

The charitable foundation’s donation will help support THRU Project’s mission to provide local foster youth with the guidance, support and advocacy necessary to prepare them for life after foster care. Youths are matched with one-to-one mentor relationships and assisted in crucial life tasks such as job and college application assistance, finance navigation and housing acquisition.

“Statistics show that youth aging out of the foster care system face an elevated risk of experiencing things such as homelessness and incarceration,” said Tom Martin, THRU Project board member and executive vice president and chief financial officer for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “They need a helping hand that can prepare them for living on their own. We are honored to be a part of their support system so they can have successful, productive and happy lives.”

Founded in 2011 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, THRU Project’s mission is to “bridge the gap” between foster care and adulthood for youth who are graduating out of the foster system.
