SAN ANTONIO, TX – MARCH 15, 2022) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation has donated $4,750 to Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of South Texas. The donation will help to provide children facing adversity with professionally supported one-on-one mentoring that can change their lives for the better.

“Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas’ vision is that all children achieve success in life,” said Nichole Fox, grants manager for BBBS of South Texas. “Our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, mentoring relationships that change their lives not just temporarily but forever. That’s why we are incredibly grateful for this generous donation from the Security Service Charitable Foundation.”

The donation will help BBBS of South Texas to provide 1,500 volunteers and caregivers with the training they need to successfully support program participants. More than 50 classes will be funded, covering topics like “Raising Highly Capable Kids,” “40 Developmental Assets” and “Mentoring 101.”

“With the world changing so rapidly, many youths are struggling with stress as well as mental and emotional issues,” said Michelle Scott, BBBS board member and senior vice president of consumer lending for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “Providing funding to help kids overcome life’s obstacles is a worthwhile effort because it allows them to have access to the important tools and support that they need now to succeed in the long term.”

In 2020 alone the organization served over 1,800 local youths, 77% of which were in the San Antonio area. Currently, BBBS has almost 1,200 youths in active mentoring relationships.

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
