(SANTA CLARA, UT – MARCH 8, 2022) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation has donated $5,000 to expand Neighborhood Connection’s reach in Washington County, UT. The donation will help fund the distribution of snack packs to elementary school children who are at risk of going without enough food during weekends.

“This money will be used to add another school to the Pantry Pack program and expand our program in existing schools,” said Donna MacBean, executive director for Neighborhood Connection. “The Security Service Charitable Foundation funds will be used for programmatic expenses that will directly benefit the students served.”

The charitable foundation’s donation will expand Neighborhood Connection’s Pantry Pack program in the Santa Clara Elementary School in Santa Clara, UT. Approximately 100 students will be fed for 37 weeks, receiving food packs with items such as soup, crackers, apple sauce, juice, breakfast and protein-rich items. These nutritious packs provide two breakfasts and two lunches for every student.

“No child should ever have to go hungry when they are not in school,” said Ben Wiseman, senior vice president of member service—Mountain West Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “It is such a blessing to be able to support an organization like Neighborhood Connection because it does so much to help our local kids receive the nutritious meals they need to thrive at home and at school.”

Of the 42% of students in Washington County who qualify for free/reduced breakfast and lunch, 771 are classified as homeless. At its current capacity, Neighborhood Connection addresses these inequities by serving 650+ students at six schools every week, and that number continues to grow.

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
