Naveo CU Announces $3,000 Scholarship
March 2, 2022
(Somerville, MA) Naveo Credit Union announced the launch of the Mr. John C. Feitor Memorial Scholarship. To honor his legacy, one scholarship in the amount of $3,000 will be awarded to an applicant who embodies some of Mr. Feitor’s inspiring traits and qualities: excellence in community involvement and outstanding academic merit.
The scholarship honors the memory of longtime board member, John C. Feitor, who was a strong believer of community involvement and striving for higher education. Mr. Feitor himself was an active contributor to the credit union and Portuguese communities, serving in several volunteer capacities at local organizations. Mr. Feitor’s own stories of persistence and success were an inspiration in the creation of this scholarship.
Mr. Feitor served the Naveo Credit Union Board of Directors for nearly forty years in several capacities, including Chair of the Board and 2nd Vice Chair. He also served as a member of the Scholarship Committee for several years.
“We are pleased to honor Mr. Feitor’s memory and enduring legacy of service to Naveo Credit Union and the community through this annual scholarship. It is our hope that the future recipients will epitomize the passion for improving the lives of so many as demonstrated by Mr. Feitor throughout his life,” said Andrea White, President/CEO at Naveo Credit Union.
The John C. Feitor Memorial Scholarship is open to full-time students currently enrolled, accepted or awaiting acceptance to a college or university in an undergraduate or graduate program. To qualify, applicants or their parent/guardian must be or become a Naveo member by the submission deadline. Applicants are asked to complete an application, provide a certified copy of their high school and/or college transcripts, have a minimum grade point average of 3.75, provide a resume which includes community involvement over the last three years and any awards or honors received, and write a 750-1,000 word essay on the topic of how community involvement has shaped their perspective of humanity, what their inspiration for community involvement is and how it influences their future.
Naveo is accepting complete scholarship applications through March 18, 2022. Naveo’s Scholarship Committee will anonymously score recipients based on their level of community involvement, academic merit, quality of the essay and their financial need. The recipients will be notified by April 6, 2022. The committee intends to present the scholarship, along with Mr. Feitor’s family at their Annual Meeting on April 13.
