Nuvision Alaska Honors Frontline Workers for National Supermarket Employee Day
February 23, 2022
Nuvision Alaska is putting the spotlight on grocery store employees for National Supermarket Employee Day on February 22. In its second year, the newly initiated tradition is an opportunity to recognize food industry workers who represent one of the largest employment sectors in Anchorage.
Celebrating frontline workers with National Supermarket Employee Day is the latest effort from NuvisionCares, which have similarly taken on projects recognizing community heroes such as local fire firefighters, police and veterans.
“With more than 5,000 total grocery retail workers in Anchorage, the food service industry workforce have maintained a vital role in keeping the city running and Alaskans fed,” said Nuvision CEO and President Roger Ballard. “It’s so important to take a moment and let our frontline workers know that we appreciate everything they’ve done for the community every day, and especially these last few years.”
The local credit union asked its employees in Anchorage branches located at Carrs grocery stores to nominate a “supermarket hero” who demonstrates exemplary customer service skills.
Fe Guting, Sam Tes, Christian Ungrodt, Christina Bright, Ally Frederick were all among the employees selected from each location and awarded $250.
Guting is known for her friendliness and enthusiasm while working. Tes was selected for his great sense of humor and overall close relationship with his team. Ungrodt is known for being a constant force of positivity among his coworkers. Bright was nominated due to her infectiously positive nature and excellent customer service. Frederick is regarded as a “supermarket hero” because of how she constantly goes above and beyond to make every customer interaction a pleasant one.
The United States was met with a record high level of job turnover last holiday season. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 4.9% of the retail workforce quit in December 2021 alone.
