February 7, 2022 - Aspire Credit Union in Minot, ND recently donated over $3,500 to the Power of the Purse Bus Pass Challenge. Power of the Purse had nearly reached their fundraising goal of $5,040 when Aspire Credit Union made the contribution from their Employees’ Jeans Day Fund. The donation will bring the total raised so far to more than $8,000!

Power of the Purse is a charitable giving circle that was formed under the Minot Area Community Foundation in 2007. The group organizes some of the most positive and intelligent women to network and strengthen our community by financially investing together and giving of their time and resources. Power of the Purse continues to focus its efforts on programs that benefit women and children in the community.

The group launched the Bus Pass Challenge in December 2021 to help get bus passes into the hands of students who may be struggling to get to school. The grant for bus pass funds was originally brought to Power of the Purse by Jim Hill Dean of students, Shannon Ostrom. The funds are distributed throughout Minot Public Schools to assist students with transportation to and from school.

“Annually, we raise funds from our jeans days and this year we wanted to make a larger impact as a team by selecting one organization to donate to,” says Mindee Kohlman, CEO of Aspire Credit Union. “The Bus Pass Program is very impactful for the community, and we are pleased to contribute to it.”

On January 18th, representatives from Power of the Purse joined Aspire CU staff for a check presentation.
