August 27, 2013
Riverside, Calif. - Thanks to the generosity of Altura Credit Union employees and members, more than two dozen local children will return to school this year with backpacks full of the supplies theyll need for a successful year. The credit union participated again this year in Riverside Countys "Fill a Backpack" program.
Administered by the County Department of Mental Healths Parent Support and Training Program, Fill a Backpack has been providing schools supplies for local needy kids for 15 years. Over a two-week period in July, Altura collected more than 20 backpacks and filled 15 boxes with schools supplies, enough to stuff a van. The donations are expected to benefit about 35 children. "We are so thrilled that we saw an increase in our donations this year, meaning that we can help more children as they prepare for the start of a new school year," said Tina Covington, Altura vice president of Sales and Business Development. As a credit union, Altura is a non-for-profit financial cooperative owned by its members. Individuals can join Altura for a one-time membership fee of $10. Membership is open to persons who live, work, attend school or worship in Riverside and San Diego counties and selected cities in San Bernardino and Orange counties.
