Unitus Community Credit Union Employees Focus on Giving to End 2021
January 3, 2022
Portland, Ore., December 30, 2021 – Three local non-profit organizations will benefit from the generosity of Unitus Community Credit Union employees this holiday season. Employees selected Meals on Wheels People, New Avenues for Youth, and Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO) as the beneficiaries of this year’s Holiday Drive fundraiser. In total, these three non-profits will receive $12,070 in financial gifts from Unitus employees and matching funds.
Meals on Wheels People will receive $4,115 in donations. This organization meets the social and nutritional needs of older adults in our community by serving and delivering meals to dining centers and the homes of seniors in Multnomah, Washington, and Clark counties.
New Avenues for Youth supports youth experiencing homelessness in our community by providing meals and counseling while also providing opportunities for education, job training, employment, and housing. Unitus’ Holiday Drive will provide $4,045 to New Avenues for Youth.
Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO) empowers immigrants, refugees, and community members from around the world to build new lives and become self-sufficient through programming, outreach, and education. Its goal is to foster understanding, compassion, and communication between Oregon’s established communities and newest arrivals. IRCO will receive $3,915 from the Unitus Holiday Drive.
In addition to supporting these three non-profits, each Unitus branch donated $1,000 to its selected community partner. This year, each branch is supporting non-profits that work to support people experiencing homelessness, low-income seniors, artists with intellectual/developmental disabilities, arts education, hunger and food insecurity, parent-teacher organizations, veterans experiencing homelessness, foster families, and survivors of traumatic events. “Community giving is at the heart of what we do at Unitus. Each organization we supported this year offers valuable resources to help serve our community,” explained Steven Stapp, Unitus’ CEO and President. “Because every single person inside our organization−members and employees alike−cares so much, we are able to provide donations that have meaningful impact on so many people.”
In total, Unitus Community Credit Union donated $450,000 in 2021, which is a 47% increase over the community giving total in 2020. This marks the highest level of donations in Unitus history. The Portland Business Journal recognized Unitus earlier this year as the fourth most philanthropic large company in Portland.
