Duluth, GA (December 9, 2021)– Georgia United Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of their 28th annual High School Competition which will award $30,000 in scholarships to six student members.

The foundation’s unique scholarship program encourages college bound students to showcase their creativity through a one-minute video submission explaining how they will use their education to help the community. Additional consideration is given to academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities.

Last year, the foundation added two additional scholarships in memory of board members Monsignor Stephen Churchwell and Randall Dennis, who passed away while actively serving on the Georgia United Board. A total of six scholarships will be awarded to deserving students who plan to attend college or a technical school during the 2022-2023 school year:

·        Vernon Carne Scholarship - $10,000

·        Geraldine Tilson Scholarship - $5,000

·        Polly Hinde Scholarship - $5,000

·        Dorothy Dusenbery Pirkle Scholarship - $5,000

·        Monsignor Stephen Churchwell Scholarship - $2,500

·        T. Randall Dennis Scholarship - $2,500

Entries will be accepted now through January 31, 2022, 11:59 pm EST.

High school students are eligible for scholarship opportunities if their parents, grandparents or themselves have been a Georgia United member for at least six months prior to the January 31, 2022, deadline. Program requirements and online application are found at gucufoundation.org/scholarships.

Submissions will be reviewed by the Scholarship Application Committee and winners will be announced by February 28, 2022. Checks will be sent directly to the college or trade school on the student’s behalf prior to the start of the first semester. Scholarship funds can be used for expenses including tuition, books and supplies.
