Credit Union AWards $6,000 in Scholarships

mountain americaWEST JORDAN, UT Mountain America recently awarded three, $2000 scholarships to local students who are members of the credit union. Each year Mountain America awards three Paul R. Ball Scholarships �established in remembrance of the credit unions vice president of human resources, who was committed to promoting excellence in education for the nations youth and who died tragically in 1992 in an automobile accident. More than 100 students applied this year for the scholarships, which are awarded based on a students academic performance, community volunteer service and a written essay about his or her educational and career aspirations. This years recipients are three honors students: Erin Cavender, who is at Westminster College, studying international business with an emphasis in marketing projects for humanitarian aid organizations; Erika Koltenuk, a student in the University of Utahs College of Nursing, who is participating in the accelerated nursing program; and LeaRose Lee, who is pursuing a bachelors degree in elementary education at the University of Utah and hopes to teach first or second grade. "It was very rewarding to have so many high-caliber students apply this year, and it is an honor to recognize our amazing scholarship finalists," said Sharon Cook, senior vice president of marketing and public relations for Mountain America. "We are confident that success will be theirs in the days ahead because they have already demonstrated how much they truly value education. Plus, they have a desire to use the knowledge and abilities they are developing in helping others and benefiting our community."
