Credit Union Awards Scholarships to Local Students

Middle Georgia� MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union recently held a reception for the recipients of their 2013 Tom Bentley Memorial Scholarship program.
Erin Wolf, of Milledgeville, was awarded the 2013 High School Scholarship. A graduate of Putnam County High School, Ms. Wolf will attend The University of Georgia this fall and major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The high school scholarship is a $4,000 award that is paid to the recipients college or technical college in installments of $1,000 per year.
Tesia Smith, of Macon, was awarded the 2013 Continuing Education Scholarship. Ms. Smith, a graduate of Howard High School, is currently earning her degree in Biology at Spelman College. The continuing education scholarship is a $2,000 award that is paid to the recipients college or technical college in installments of $500 per year.
Applicants were judged on the basis of grades, SAT and ACT scores, service provided in school and in the community, recommendations by teachers or administrators, and financial need.
MidSouth Community FCU was originally charted as Bibb Teachers Federal Credit Union, and has since grown to have more than $180 million in assets and a membership that includes more than 31,000 members. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school within their 13-county community charter.
