Community Financial Credit Union has awarded $1,000 to Michigan Philharmonic for their CLASSical Music for Kids program, including Koncert for Kids, as part of Community Financials third annual Summer of Sharing campaign.
CLASSical Music for Kids, the Michigan Philharmonic CLASSical music program, brings music to the Plymouth-Canton, Wayne-Westland and Van Buren school districts. Third grade students meet musicians in the orchestra and learn about their instruments while enjoying performances from different eras and cultures.
Fourth graders attend a specially programmed age-appropriate concert called, "Koncert for Kids." Here, students learn about how the orchestra is put together, what each instruments sounds are, and what the conductor does.
Students get to meet composer, Andre Myers, who narrates his own work, based on the book "Paddle to the Sea." They also get a conducting lesson and get to sing with the orchestra.
"We were really thrilled to receive one of the Community Financial award grants for the education program," said Beth Stewart, Michigan Philharmonics executive director. "We really appreciate their support for arts education in our community."
Community Financial is donating $1,000 every Monday through Friday until Aug. 30, to non-profit organizations nominated during the Summer of Sharing campaign. Nominations can be made at

The first Summer of Sharing campaign was launched in 2011 to help celebrate Community Financials 60th anniversary. The popular program is now in its third year.
