SAN DIEGO, Calif., (September 13, 2021) -- San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of Southern California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, partnered with the San Diego Blood Bank and the Southern California Blood Bank to host a Labor Day blood drive on September 7 at seven SDCCU locations; five in San Diego County, one in Riverside County and one in Orange County, collecting 105 pints of much-needed blood, which will help save the lives of over 315 people.

The blood drive helped boost inventory during a challenging time for the San Diego Blood Bank, as many of their normally scheduled drives have not taken place over the past year due to businesses and community partners being unable to host because of the COVID-19 pandemic and restricted company policies. Blood donations are especially critical at this time of year, and the reduced number of drives has put additional strain on the already stretched on-hand supply.

“SDCCU is proud to once again partner with the San Diego Blood Bank to host a blood drive to help increase the supply on hand as we head into fall,” said Teresa Campbell, SDCCU president and CEO. “We are grateful to all those who came out, volunteered your time and donated, as your donation makes a difference in the lives of those in our community.”

More than 30 hospitals rely on the San Diego Blood Bank every day. The San Diego Blood Bank is the parent company of the Southern California Blood Bank that covers the Orange County and Los Angeles regions. With a shelf life of just 42 days, the constant need for new donations is critical. To learn more about the San Diego Blood Bank or for more information, visit www.sandiegobloodbank.org.
