(SAN ANTONIO, TX – AUGUST 18, 2021) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation is helping Roy Maas Youth Alternatives (RMYA) through a donation of $5,000 to provide essential campus repairs to areas damaged by winter storms. This donation will help cover the replacement of ruptured water lines, and residential/operational essential building repairs.

“Our main kitchen and freezer were totally unusable due to the burst fire sprinkler system,” said Dr. Julie Strentzsch, chief operating officer of RMYA. “We also had several water heaters destroyed and some of our equipment was destroyed through the storm. This $5,000 donation will help with the much needed repairs and help us continue providing essential care for our youth on campus.”

RMYA’s programs include emergency shelter services (the Bridge/La Puerta) for children ages 5-17 years, RMYA Centro Seguro 24/7 Drop In Center for Trafficked, Runaway or Homeless Youth up to age 24, RMYA Meadowland Campus long-term residential care (ages 6-17), RMYA TurningPoint Transitional Living Program for youth who have aged out of Foster Care or who are homeless (18-24 years), the Meadowland Charter School (1st-12th grade), the RYMA Family Counseling & Resource Center for services to community children and families provided on a sliding scale based on income, and the RMYA Thrift Shop, which provides in-kind resources and proceeds of sales for the RMYA residential programs.

“This past year has been extremely difficult for many non-profits with the impact of COVID-19 and the unexpected winter storms,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “This donation will help RMYA continue their mission of providing a safe and loving home for our foster kids.”

Founded in 1976, RMYA provides shelter and therapeutic care for children in the Texas Foster Care system to heal from severe abuse and violence through no fault of their own. Over the past 45 years over 80,000 abused, neglected, and at-risk youth have been served throughout the San Antonio and Bexar County areas. More information on the history and services RMYA provides can be found online at www.rmya.org.
