Brownstown, MI—July 2021— Advantage One Credit Union is committed to supporting local Downriver organizations, so when the Community Outreach team was deciding on a summer food drive, Downriver for Veterans was a no brainer! Donation boxes were placed in the branch lobbies, as well as at the Contact Center and corporate office and a food drive was held through the months of June and July. An employee contest was also created, challenging the different locations to see who could collect the most items. The drive was a huge success, accumulating almost 2,500 non-perishable food items to be donated to Downriver for Veterans.

Community Outreach members, Chelsea Fell, Lindsay Dennis, Amber Hayes and Charlie Nusser delivered two pick-up trucks worth of food to an elated Downriver for Veterans. Volunteers of the organization could be heard saying it felt like Christmas at DFV, as many of their wish list items were in the donation from Advantage One. Ann Rudisill (DFV Founder) and Monika Anthony (Board of Directors) were on hand to explain to the team how the food program works at DFV and how not only do local Veterans have the opportunity to come once a month for food pickup, but they also provide deliveries to those Vets who are unable to make it to the warehouse.

“Today was a humbling experience,” said Lindsay Dennis of Advantage One. “To see the heart that these people put into serving the local vets in our community, makes you want to step up and pitch in. The work that Ann and her team do is amazing and I’m so happy that Advantage One could be part of it. We will definitely continue to support this wonderful organization!”
