(SAN ANTONIO, TX – AUGUST 6, 2021) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation has donated $2,500 to Pueblo Cooperative Care Center (PCCC) to help feed individuals and families in need across Pueblo County, Colorado. This donation will allow Pueblo Cooperative Care Center to feed roughly 9,000 people per day through their “Food Sacks” grocery program.
“The people coming to us for service are not only low income and homeless - but everyday people who need a helping hand because they do not have adequate resources due to the impact of COVID-19," said Corry Higbee, executive director for Pueblo Cooperative Care Center. “This donation means a great deal to our organization and will make significant strides as we continue to serve individuals and families within our community.”
PCCC’s Food Sacks program provides approximately 50-70lbs of food items monthly, and includes the Nutrition On Wheels and Transient Sacks programs. The cost to feed one individual per day is roughly .39 cents.
"The pandemic has taken its toll on so many people in our community, leading to an increase in requests for services this past year,” said Derrick Aguilar, senior vice president of member service—Mountain Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “This donation will help provide food to more than 6,000 individuals who otherwise would go without.”
In 2020, PCCC served 47,565 residents through its Food Sacks program, and more than 8,150 through its then newly-launched Nutrition On Wheels program. Established in 1982 as an emergency crisis center, PCCC is the largest non-profit emergency assistance program in southern Colorado.
